Appalachia Day 4 - Tuesday
Tuesday was a very busy day for us - that is why I am writing about it on Wednesday! Me and Greg went to scout out a location in the neighboring town and community as a possibility for White Oak to do next year. My goal this year was to pair our group with a group that was well established in the community and in their work. We have been preparing to work side by side with First ARP for a while now, and this was done in part to start to get our kids ready to, one day, be ready and able to do their own site. So, we went to visit Flatwoods Methodist church in Jonesville, VA and their pastor. It was a great visit and time with some of the folks of the church. It is definitely something that we need to pray about before we jump into it.
The White Oak youth are doing a great job - they are fully prepared and jump right into the mix. I am very proud of them on different levels. Please keep us in your prayers as we continue in this work.
Our worship on Tuesday was AMAZING! John Cook preached on the true meaning of the Gospel - we don't bring anything to the table ... the Gospel springs forth from God's eternal love. It is one of those sermons that you wish everyone you knew could hear!
One of the things are groups do is to get together after worship and pray for each other. Sometimes this is done in a large group, sometimes in groups of 4, or sometimes in their teaching groups. This is a wonderful time for them to build eternal bonds by lifting each other up before the throne of grace. To me, it is a moving experience to watch these youth pray for each other (as my group prays, I keep one eye open and watch our kids!).
I will post later on this evening about Wednesday - there are some neat things to tell you about!
The pics below are: view from the front of the church during opening ceremonies ... arts and crafts time ...the view of part of Greg's drive as he picks up kids to bring them to VBS.
